Motherhood Knows Best

It’s been 4 years and 6 months since I become a mother and as days and weeks go by, I’m learning a lot of things on how to manage, handle and improve my situation as well as my relationship with my daughter. Though being a single mom is tougher in more ways than one, but it was nothing compared to the excitement and happiness I feel to see my baby girl grow up fast and learn a lot of things.

This school year, she’ll start going to school as Kinder (rather than Nursery) which I’m not sure what lessons will be taught to kinder level, since she has not gone to school before. Though, as a teacher (and came from a family of teachers from preschool to ESL instructor) I exercised my knowledge and experiences to my daughter’s learning improvement. Still, I’m somewhat worried on how she will grasp to a new environment and learning strategy in school, but I am confident that she can recite the alphabet very well, together with twang and the schwa sounds. I guess it’s just my habit as being an ESL instructor and an English major to exercise what I’ve learned and pass it to my daughter.

And as a preparation for the upcoming school days, we have already bought her school supplies early month of April, when school materials are still available. She got her school shoes, socks and bag too. She was already enrolled before the end of April to make sure she won’t miss a slot to get in to class. I also started digging the reading books my mom used when she taught me to read, plus, a little application of the TOEFL and IELTS learning styles I have which I hope will help make my baby girl equip for her schooling.

I would love to take her to school in the first day of the class to see how she would look like. I know it will be a slight scary for her as she will encounter new people, new kids, new environment but I guess me and her grandfather have already prepared her for this new level in my little girl’s new world.
